Amitriptyline - Elavil |
Amitriptyline can affect the patient badly if combine with certain other chemicals, sometimes troublesome side effects include increase in rate of heart, unclear vision, urinary withholding, dehydration, constipation, some may feel difference in their weight and dizziness on standing. Rash, hives, seizures, and hepatitis are rare side effects of long term use of Elavil. Amitriptyline can cause swelling in the prostate region which may result in the urine retention. Patient with glaucoma can feel high pressure in eyes if reacted by Amitriptyline.
It can also increase the risk of seizures. Antidepressants generally increase the possibility of suicidal thoughts and behavior in kid below 13 and teenagers with depression and other psychological disorders. Expert opinion and clinical need is very important for the patient who is thinking of starting the treatment of Elavil or some other antidepressants and patient should be thoroughly examined because it may make the case worse by increasing the risk of suicide and unusual change in behavior. In some cases like continuous headaches, nausea, restlessness may result in discontinuing the use of Amitriptyline.
Side effects like Anticholinergic (include: indigestion, urine retention, fever etc), allergies (rashes, edema etc), hematologies (include: Bone marrow depression etc), gastrointestinal which is a Rare hepatitis (including differential liver function or jaundice); difference in the colour of the tongue, bad mouth taste, etc. Elavil can cause severe high blood pressure in pregnant women, causing danger to the life of the baby. If the drug is taken after the delivery, one should stop breast feeding because Amitriptyline is secreted in human milk and can have adverse effect on the baby.
